With the 2026 World Cup less than two years away, former US coach Gregg Berhalter has confirmed that he is in discussions with Mexican side Club America, one of the biggest teams in the country.
Berhalter's departure from the USMNT came after a disappointing finish for the team at this summer's Copa America. The US failed to advance past the group stage, finishing with a record of 1-1-1.
Berhalter, 50, spent five years as the head coach of the USMNT, compiling a record of 37-23-12. He led the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where they advanced to the knockout round for the first time since 2014.
Club America is currently managed by Fernando Ortiz, who has been in charge since March 2022. However, the team has struggled under his leadership, finishing 10th in the Liga MX standings last season.
Berhalter is reportedly one of several candidates that Club America is considering for the managerial position. Other candidates include former Mexico national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio and current Club America assistant coach Miguel Herrera.
